American Homeowners Association (AHA)®
Statement of Privacy
Last updated November 3rd, 2003
At the American Homeowners Association, we are committed
to protecting your privacy and are continually developing technology
that gives you the most powerful and secure online experience. If
you are a non-member, you can travel through much of our site without
giving us any information about yourself. If you are a member, we
will ask you when we need information that personally identifies
you (personal information) or allows us to contact you. Sometimes
we do need additional information to provide the services that you
request, and this statement of privacy explains data collection
and use in those situations.
Collecting your Personal Information
We will ask you when we need information that personally identifies
you (personal information) or allows us to contact you. Generally,
this information is requested when you are asked to register before
obtaining certain benefits, ordering e-mail newsletters, referring
friends or when purchasing products. Personal information collected
by the American Homeowners Association is generally limited to name,
e-mail address and location but may include other information when
needed to provide a service you requested.
When you register for email newsletters and reminders, we may ask
you to register your profile electronically. When you do, we keep
this registration information on file with any information you've
already given us on previous visits to our Web site. This is considered
your personal profile.
If you ever want to review or update your profile, simply visit
the click on the add/edit profile feature and edit your personal
information. When you do so, we'll ask you to disclose your American
Homeowners Association Membership Number so that only you can access
your profile.
The Log In service assigns a personal identification number and
sends it to your computer in the form of a small text file, called
a "cookie." The use of this cookie allows the site to
recognize you as a member and allows you to visit other areas of
the web site without having to sign in to each Web page.
Use of your Personal Information
We use your personal information for four primary purposes:
- To make the site easier for you to use by not making you enter
your personal information more than once
- To insure your online experience is secure
- To help us create and deliver content most relevant to you.
- To alert you to benefit features, special offers, updated information
and other new services from American Homeowners Association.
We occasionally hire other companies to provide limited outsourced
services on our behalf, including packaging, mailing and delivering
purchases, answering customer questions about products or services
and sending postal mail. We will only provide those companies the
information they need to deliver the service, and they are prohibited
from using that information for any other purpose.
American Homeowners Association will disclose your personal information,
without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good
faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the
edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on American
Homeowners Association or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights
or property of American Homeowners Association, Inc. and its family
of Web sites, and, (c) act in urgent circumstances to protect the
personal safety of users of American Homeowners Association, Inc.
its Web sites, or the public.

When you enroll as a member, or otherwise give us personal information,
American Homeowners Association will not share that information
with third parties without your permission, other than for the limited
exceptions already listed. It will only be used for the purposes
stated above.
